China trip 2013

So in the beginning I honestly dreaded this trip but it turns out that it really wasnt that bad.
A week and a half trip was actually a nice way to be able to spend time at our factories and also to be able to have some personal time in Hong Kong.

The best part of my trip was being able to spend Hong Kong with T & A. We actually got to spend time going to all areas and shops and eating some awesome food.

We also got to stay at two hotels on different sides of the island which allowed us to be able to see different parts of Hong Kong. On Saturday we stayed at JPlus botique hotel which is where I stayed last time. It was really nice because we got to spend lots of time shopping around in this area.

On Sunday we stayed at the Langham hotel which was right across the street from Harbor city which is this amazing mall that I always go to. Was actually really close to the ferry that takes us to China .

Our last night we watched the sun set at the Intercontinental. Enjoyed a really nice light dinner and watched the sun set. The view was so amazing because we actually got to see the transition from day to night. They do this crazy light show at night which was lots of fun.

Megu Sushi

So tonight after work B recommended this sushi place in Tribeca called Megu.

I asked Joy about this place and she said that it was actually a really fancy place. It actually was a fancy nice place, not normally our vibe but the sushi rolls were normal price so we decided to check it out.

We shared these Kobe beef foie gras croquettes as a starter and had some rolls.

For dessert we shared this amazing green tea crepe layer. Was really amazing.

China Trip Work

After my family left on the 1st I went back to China to work at the factory for a few days.

Today is my last day here and I am so relieved to be heading home tomorrow. Being away from home really sucks especially since I have been away since the 21st of December. Thats around three weeks!

Being at the factory is a fun experience. Its fun to see your designs being made but also a huge reminder of how much labor is involved when making a bag. Even the simple act of edge painting 1 little tab is amazing. Each thread is trimmed and burned. Even our most simple collection takes a long time to make.

Being in this industry is really amazing! There really is no difference when you consider country of origin except the labor costs.

Its really awful that people have such a negative connotation with “made in china” but we are to blame. We are the ones who wanted things cheaper and farmed out the labor overseas. The garment district is almost non-existent because of this.

I am very thankful that I get the chance to travel because it really opens your eyes to see what the rest of the world is like. This trip especially because I now have the experience to travel across the border alone. Normally I get escorted with a driver but they sent me on a bus over the weekend. Almost got lost but thankfully someone on the bus spoke english and was able to guide me across. You basically have to get off the bus, take your luggage and go across the China border and when you get to the other side you have to just walk around and find your bus. Luckily this guy saw that I was with the bus company because I had to wear a sticker. Then you get on the bus and travel like four minutes and then get off the bus to travel through Hong Kong immigration. such a complicated process but is just how it is here.

New J? Maybe??

So yesterday morning I met with a recruiter to talk about a potential position CH.

To be honest it wasn’t something that I would have normally been interested but because of the restructuring and the new investors who want to make it successful I really think that it could be a good thing to move into.

This coming tuesday is when she is going to present me as a candidate to the company so hopefully they consider me as a candidate.

China Trip this weekend!

So this weekend I am headed to China for a business trip.

Not really looking forward to this trip because for starters the 16 hour flight sucks!
Secondly the people that I am traveling with that I thought I was cool with are not as cool as
i thought they were.

Turns out that they are shady bitches and I am just not cool with that. Don’t pretend like your cool with me and be all flaky and shit behind my back.

I guess she is just a jealous person and some people are just evil. After speaking to B, Adis and my Mom about it I feel much better.

Adis said that I should just ignore it and just pretend like it doesn’t bother me. In the end I am a huge believer in Karma and what goes around will definitely come back around.

Who knows, maybe when I get there it will totally be cool but we’ll see.

Board meeting

So today was my first time meeting with the board for our annual coop meeting.

It was actually really exciting because I got to see how the building functioned. We discussed everything to building financials all the way to building cleanliness and overall management.

We are getting a new service to manage the cleaning and building maintenance because we are not currently getting the proper care from our current super.

We also needed to vote for a new board member. Me and this other guy voted and I unfortunately did not get elected.

I felt really bummed for the rest of the night but just have to move on. Now t least I know what happens at these meeting and am better prepared for next years discussion.

After the meeting I met up with B to get some Mussels and oysters so that he could prepare for his sperm test. Lets hope all goes well tmmrw.

New keyboard

I got a new keyboard today on Amazon.

It was actually reallly cheap- Only 20 bucks with the 10 dollar next day shipping.

The keyboard is actually really nice and looks just like an apple keyboard. The only thing really that is missing is the fact that it is not have that aluminum surface, instead it is just painted silver but honestly its not that bad and definitely worth the money.

It is definitely lighter and the keys do function very nicely.

Yayy!!

Gay Pride

So yesterday was Gay pride.

This was definitely not an ordinary gay pride celebration. On Saturday Mom called and said that she wanted to come and support our love by coming to the parade.

This was really sweet because normally I never think to include family to gay events because I wasn’t accepted before. Mom asking to come for support was really special and it showed how supportive she has become.

I remember the first time that I came out to her and her reaction was the complete opposite of what she is now. She dis-owned me over the phone and told me that I was no longer her son.

I am so proud at how far she has become. I know that every parent has certain dreams and wishes for their children but in the end you can’t forget that you should love them now matter what. If you child is naughty or does bad things you never stop loving them. Why should loving someone of the same sex be any different?

So thanks to Mom coming to the parade she invite Aunt Cindy, Ariel and Ant Amy and the triplets. Hanging with Ant Amy and the triplets didn’t happen until after we left the parade because of all the barricades. We were kiddie corner from each other but the barricades do not allow you to cross over so we decided to grab lunch together after the parade.

Ended up taking them to delicious Sichuan restaurant. Aunt Cindy actually agrees that this was better than the Sichuan restaurant that I took her to before.

Afterwards we bought some ice cream and had dessert at our Apartment.

Completely exhausted after the long day but definitely a memorable one.

Long Island hike

So today we decided to go on a hike to Long Island. Weather has been really rocky lately with all of the rain so figured this would be a good day to skip the beach and be out doors.

We had to start the day in Flushing because I had to get some meds. for Mom but afterwards we stopped to have dim sum. Always fun to grab dim sum on the weekends because its always so good. Normally when I have it with Adis in Jersey its just OK and not too special. For some reason its always amazing in NY.

After that we took a bus over to the LIRR to transfer to the huntington train.
Train ride wasnt that bad. Neither was the half hour bike ride to the hike.

The hike was really beautiful. We went to these old ruins which were very old. They definitely added to the experience.

The only negative part of the hike was the crazy amount of mosquitos. There were so many and if you took even a few minute break standing still they came out you.

Overall we had a great time. Mom and Adis took a break form us and wandered around for a bit.
