Family

July 4th Weekend 2015 / Grandpa Injured

So this July 4th weekend we decided to do another Pocono trip. Uncle Phil and Joe came along to Join us and also Lawrence, Aunt Cindys nephew from SF.

It was kind of nice to get a chance to spend time with Aunt Cindys side of the family.

I met Adis in NB and then went with her and Grandpa to the Poconos.

HIKE:
On Friday morning we woke up and headed to Ricketts Glen state park. There was approx 21 waterfalls on this hike It was a lot of fun because all of the falls were different sizes and was so much fun to see.

I ended up taking a fall as I was videoing myself walking along the edge of one of the falls. I scraped and bruised my arm which sucks but gladly it was my left (non-tattooed) arm.

We ended up hiking for a total of 8.4miles which was really great. We were all so wiped out afterwards and at the end of the hike there was a cluster of boulders that we climbed and ate some snacks on. It was a wonderful hike and the temperature was perfect.

BIKING:
On Saturday it was raining in the morning so we postponed our bike ride until 2:00pm. Luckily by the time we got to the bike rental the sun came out and the rain stopped. There was a few drizzles during the ride but nothing serious. We did the 15 mile ride which actually went by pretty fast. We did it last July 4th and it felt much longer.

There was one point on the ride where we climbed up this uphill mountain/rock and I ended up falling and doing a tumble down. What happened was that I climbed up maybe 5 feet and was sliding down because of my trackionless sneakers and kind of ran down the mountain. What happened was when I got to the bottom my foot slipped and my ankle turned, I decided to roll to ease into the fall which helped.

Austin on the other hand ended up climbing a lot higher and after a certain point his legs started shaking because he was scared so he turned around and decided to slide down. He started kind of bouncing as he was sliding down. Luckily he wasn’t injured and I caught most of it on video :-).

At the end of the ride we had some ice cream and had pizza for dinner. During pizza Uncle called Grandpa to check on him and told him that we would be home in an hour.

When we got home and Austin went to check on Grampie to see how he was doing and Austin BOLTED out of his room and was like “Grandpas SHAKING” “Somethings wrong!!!!”. We all ran into his room and his arms were shaking back and forth. He was shivering saying he was so cold and to call 911 or an ambulance. Aunt Cindy and I continually rubbed his back and legs to get his blood flowing through his body and by the time the ambulance came he stopped shivering.

The paramedics took his temp and it read 102. That is considered very high for someone his age so they took him to the hospital. The closest and ONLY hospital in the county was an hour away. Surprisingly enough when they got to the hospital he was immediately taken in even though the hospital was so crowded. I guess since he is elderly it’s considered more of an emergency.
After several tests they said his white blood cell count was high and that he needed to stay in the hospital for a few days.

Aunt Amy will pick him up in a few days once he is released.

What a crazy end to the trip. I am just relieved and glad that nothing bad happened.

Fathers Day Weekend / Goodbye Rocky

This weekend I spent it with the family for Fathers Day Weekend.

Spent friday with Adis and made steak for dinner and watch Transformers.

Saturday morning we took Shibby to the park and then went for dim sum lunch. Decided to try going to Shanghai bun this time but by the time we got there it was too late. Decided just to order what we normally order. Fu Ji Fei Pian which is this delicious spicy dish. I don’t know what part of the meat it is but it has gelatinized fat which is so delicious.

After lunch we went over to Uncles to start prepping. We decided that we would want to try making the Mille Crepe cake from Harbs. It was a lot of work because we had to make so many crepes. Ended up making only around twelve crepes.

Another dish we made was the Summer corn salad. It was really refreshing and delicious. It had a jalapeño basil dressing with garlic and lime.

Another reason to hang with the family this weekend was to spend time with Rocky. That was the last time that I got to see him which is really sad. They plan to put him down this week. He can’t even get up to drink or eat. It’s going to be really sad to go back to Uncles and not have rocky there. :-(

Gay Pride

So yesterday was Gay pride.

This was definitely not an ordinary gay pride celebration. On Saturday Mom called and said that she wanted to come and support our love by coming to the parade.

This was really sweet because normally I never think to include family to gay events because I wasn’t accepted before. Mom asking to come for support was really special and it showed how supportive she has become.

I remember the first time that I came out to her and her reaction was the complete opposite of what she is now. She dis-owned me over the phone and told me that I was no longer her son.

I am so proud at how far she has become. I know that every parent has certain dreams and wishes for their children but in the end you can’t forget that you should love them now matter what. If you child is naughty or does bad things you never stop loving them. Why should loving someone of the same sex be any different?

So thanks to Mom coming to the parade she invite Aunt Cindy, Ariel and Ant Amy and the triplets. Hanging with Ant Amy and the triplets didn’t happen until after we left the parade because of all the barricades. We were kiddie corner from each other but the barricades do not allow you to cross over so we decided to grab lunch together after the parade.

Ended up taking them to delicious Sichuan restaurant. Aunt Cindy actually agrees that this was better than the Sichuan restaurant that I took her to before.

Afterwards we bought some ice cream and had dessert at our Apartment.

Completely exhausted after the long day but definitely a memorable one.

Long Island hike

So today we decided to go on a hike to Long Island. Weather has been really rocky lately with all of the rain so figured this would be a good day to skip the beach and be out doors.

We had to start the day in Flushing because I had to get some meds. for Mom but afterwards we stopped to have dim sum. Always fun to grab dim sum on the weekends because its always so good. Normally when I have it with Adis in Jersey its just OK and not too special. For some reason its always amazing in NY.

After that we took a bus over to the LIRR to transfer to the huntington train.
Train ride wasnt that bad. Neither was the half hour bike ride to the hike.

The hike was really beautiful. We went to these old ruins which were very old. They definitely added to the experience.

The only negative part of the hike was the crazy amount of mosquitos. There were so many and if you took even a few minute break standing still they came out you.

Overall we had a great time. Mom and Adis took a break form us and wandered around for a bit.

Moms dr appt

So today we took Mom to her doctors appointment. They injected her spine
To help relieve pain.

Was a super serious procedure that is very dangerous. They put her to sleep and they let me watch her. I had to put on those radiation aprons while they X Rayed her neck.

After that we went to have lunch in Flushing. Mom had the delicious cold noodles. I am truly a replica of mom because I love the same things she does.

We took mom to visit one of her friends. This really cute old lady who my mom met at Church one time. Really sad story. She loves with her son but he has no job and have a difficult life. But even though they don’t have much they cook dinner for mom and hang out with each other. My mom brought them over two boxes of this frozen fish.

After that we went to my house to get some movies for adis.

Mom & Adis- Man of Steel

So this past weekend Adis and Mom came over to watch Man of Steel with us.

B and I have been looking forward to see this movie since it came out on Friday but since we spent Father’s Day with Grampie on Friday we decided to re-schedule.

I made this amazing lasagne with a simple arugula salad. They really loved the food. Afterwards we took Mom and Adis to the High Line. She really loved it. We only had time for a quick walk but my Mom loved it. She even said that next time instead of a movie lets just go to another park.

Planning to take them to the Hudson River park next time they come over.

Man of Steel was pretty amazing. Superman was SUPER freaking hot and overall I really liked how the director told the story. Graphics were really awesome.

Family day

Had such an amazing time with family this weekend.

After work on Friday I met mom to go and have dinner with Adis in jersey. Made a quick visit to Uncles house and then went to this new buffet place. Food wasn’t that great but was one of the few places to eat at 10:45 pm.

Saturday morning we went to have our usual dim sum breakfast. Was delicious and made up for last nights nasty dinner.

Afterwards we went to JCPenny for some essentials and then to target. I told both Adis and Mom that I would give them each 100$ spending money for things they need. Felt really good to help them out.

After that we went to get some Korean groceries for a delicious Korean dinner.

For the first time we actually had a sit down dinner that was relaxing and conversational. Adis cleaned off the center kitchen table which made it all possible.

Triples 16th bday

So the Triplets just turned 16!
It’s so crazy that they are two years away from becoming adults!

Time really does fly. I am so proud of how well behaved and mature they have become.

I decided to have them over for brunch to celebrate. B and I made them poached eggs over polenta w mushrooms, roasted asparagus, latkes and some breakfast sausages.

This was our first time entertaining so many people. Was only five but still was a lot to manage. Poaching 14 eggs was not easy!

They all enjoyed the food and we had a great time just getting together. Also they loved our new chair that we bought. Definitely worth every penny.

Dinner with Adis

So I finally was able to get Adis to have dinner at our apt.

For the past two weekends we have been trying to get her to hang with us on the weekend but her sleep schedule was so off that she never made it.

She came over last night for a Surf &Turf dinner. Ended up being delicious and we had a great time.

It was really nice to see her especially since I haven’t seen her in so long.

Apartment Closing September 10th!

OMG! I can’t believe it! Finally were almost there :-)

Our apartment closing is next Monday! It’s kind of ridiculous because this whole apartment process has taken almost an entire year!

I honestly cannot wait until we move in so that we can renovate and decorate OUR apartment knowing that any investment that we make will only add to the value of the apt.

I am super excited because its Labor day weekend so that means that this next week will be short! Only 4 days and then the weekend!

I am so happy that this is finally becoming a reality.

I really hope that me and B become healthier financially so that we can start saving for vacations etc…

Mothers Day Weekend

Had a lovely mothers day weekend with my Mom.

Saturday we got together to visit Grandmas grave for the first time. It was nice that we could all get together to visit her.

After our visit we hung out at grandpas for a bit and then I took my Mom and Dad to the city to my apt for Mothers Day dinner.

I took my parents to Chelsea market. It was really cute to bring them out because my Mom was so impatient just like a little kid when we were waiting for our lobster to be steamed. Afterwards we walked home and got home just in time because Adis was chilling with B when we walked in.

I made a nice simple pasta dish and we each had our own lobster. Such a great time and so happy to be able to do something nice as a family for Mom.

I tried to convince my Dad not to come but after talking to Uncle I realized that grandpa was going to jersey and he would have been left home alone which would have been very depressing for him so I decided to take him. Im really glad that he came because it was good for him to finally meet B knowing that he is my partner and also to see our Apt.

Grandma Passing

It has been a long time since my last post. Alot has been going on with the family. My grandma passed away today and it has been the first death in my immediate family that I have had to deal with.

Grandma has been struggling holding on to her last thread of life for years now and finally she has let go peacefully. As sad as it is this has been the biggest relief for my family to finally get to move on and deal with her leaving us.

A few days ago I took the day off and spent the day with grandma. All of us were there spending time with her. We all said our goodbyes and played videos and just spent time with her as a family.

Now that she has left us we can look back on who she was as a healthy wife, mother and grandmother.

We looked back at all of the things she used to do for us that made her Grandma.

I have to begin working on a small speech that I am going to present at the funeral/wake. I think the one thing that I am going to talk about is how strong of a woman grandma was. Through her arthritis in her legs and her hard work making dollars a day working in the sweatshop in factories she was always working hard and I have always admired her for that.

I feel completely horrible for my grandpa. He was finally able to say goodbye to his lifelong partner. Over 60+ years of marriage to one woman- amazing!

Painting/ Aunt Cindy

So this weekend I spent the day with Adis at Uncle Alvin’s house. Asia has been house sitting and watching rocky.

Adis had this great idea to paint the kitchen for Aunt Cindy as a gift from both of us. We painted the ceiling and top parts of the walls and left a 7 inch border of white on the walls. The bottom half were going to paint lavender.

Even though it sounded like this huge chore it ended up being alot of fun. Adis an I talked alot and we also spoke to Aunt Amy for a bit about the whole house situation.

Now I’m back on the train to the city to spend Sunday with Furry.

He’s leaving to go to SXSW next thursday so this is like the last weekend day with him until he gets back.

Cemetary days

So this past weekend we went to visit the cemetary. It always makes me sad when I see Uncle Allans grave because it reminds me of the loss that my family experienced.

I found out from my Aunt today that she was only 14 years old when he passed. Just as old as my little cousins and that makes me so sad when you think about it like that.
My dad said he was 23 years old and my Dad was one year older than him making him 24 years old! I remember being 24 and being kind of young and stupid and to have to deal with the loss of a sibling would have totally set me off track!

Being at the cemetery makes me really think about death and whether or not I want to be buried or cremated. I think I definitely want to be cremated because I don’t want to think about people coming to visit me when I am dead-just makes me so sad to think about it.

Weekend with Adis

I finally went down to Jersey to hang with Adis. She picked me up Friday after work.

We ordered sushi for dinner and mad a quick stop at Target of course.

Bridesmaids finally came on DVD so I had to get that one for Adis.

We got to her house and had dinner and watched bridesmaids. I don’t think Adis found the movie as good as I did but I also don’t think that she paid as much attention. She said she would watch it again.

Saturday we had out usual slow starts. Went to dim sum and then to Barnes and nobles. I’m glad we did something different for a change.

For dinner we stopped at A&P for some groceries and made dinner at home. Adis made this delicious mustard garlic chicken with asparagus. I made Brussels sprouts with some diced ham.

Unfortunately my Brussels sprouts didn’t taste that good. The Ham was not that good. Should have used bacon instead.

After dinner we watched some tv and ten Adis dropped me at the train. I got kind of upset at her because we missed the train because she didn’t get ready when I told her to. Really makes me so angry and stressed when we rush to the train.

Poconos

Wow- what a weekend I just had in the Poconos. Basically long story short Allison planned to rent a car but we had so many problems with renting the car because of her credit card and after like 2 hours we finally got the car and headed off to the Poconos.

Even more ridiculous was the fact that we woke up at 7am and ended up leaving at like 1 pm or something. It was ridiculous because we arrived at like 4pm.

We then decided to do an outdoor event and head out to this park that has a small waterfall. We got there and had basically had an hour of daylight.

After the kids hung out and swam a bit in the water we walked out with just enough time before the sunset. It was actually perfect timing.

Shakespeare in the Park

Last night Ant Cindy invited me to Shakespeare in the park. It was so nice of her to invite me to the see the play since she waited so long to get the tickets.

It was super cool to be in the park watching the actors perform in the park. Another reason to Love new York.

Definitely glad that I decided to go and an experience worth having.

Weekend in Jersey

So Friday night I went to meed Adis at her work. We went to Jersey together- It was messed up because last weekend I totally cancelled on her because I had to get lots of work done. I was supposed to call her on Thursday to let her know the weekend plans but didn’t even do that. Also it was more messed up because I am the one that told her that I wanted to hang with her and I flaked out on her.

I actually had a great time with Adis. For dinner we went to the huge H Mart in Edison and got lots of groceries and made dinner at home. We bought sliced ribeye, soon doobu soup and kimchi.

On satuday we had a really chill day. Adis started making this delicious OX Tail stew that was amazing. She marinated it with this curry powder, garlic powder and fish sauce. She pan fried it and then cooked it for like several hours. It was so delicious and the meat just fell right off the bone. Totally reminded me of ox tail dinner with Grandpa :-).

We had a lovely walk with Poly around the block. We was being so cute because at the end of our 20 minute walk he was so tired and hot that he just plopped right down in someones lawn to take a break. Also another strange thing was that every time he took a poo- He had a little erection. I found that hilarious!

Adis had to get her oil changed so we went to get that done and then headed over to the mall. There were these awesome Puma sneakers that I really wanted to get but Adis wouldn’t let me because she said that they look too bitchy-BETCH-

Uncle came to meet us at the mall to hang for a few and we just hung out at the food court and chilled for a bit. I ended up buying this InCase Origami station for the Ipad and keyboard which I am actually using right now. Its so fantastic because it actually functions as a case for my bluetooth keyboard-I LOVE IT.
